Brokers kick off UK association

A new association for brokers in the waste management industry has held its first event, attracting more than 70 representatives.

The supply chain was the focus of a forum held by the Waste Management Brokers Association (WMBA) in Coventry.

Delegates considered how the association could work with and support local and regional providers of waste, recycling and resource management services. Discussions will be worked into a draft code of practice to help ensure consistency within the broker market and the way that it works with the supply chain.

The WMBA was formed by UK Waste Solutions, Specialist Waste Recycling and Newstar Environmental, which have a combined turnover of more than £70m and customers include Network Rail, Greene King and Aldi.

Communications director Max Kanda said: “The level of attendance at the event, and the positive and open nature of our discussions, shows that there is a genuine willingness for brokers and their suppliers to both enhance the customer experience and realise the commercial potential of large national contracts that, in isolation, neither party would be able to service.”
